Position Objective
The Loss Control Manager manages the Loss Control Unit in support of the Commercial-Farm/Ranch division. Manages the development of loss control expertise, programs and services to enhance risk selection and customer retention and ensure profitability. Develops and implements loss control strategies and maintains positive customer relationships. Provides leadership for the department, oversees effective vendor management practices and collaborates with business partners to establish and maintain effective loss control programs and processes.


Primary Accountabilities
- Loss Control Operations (30%)
- Establishes processes to ensure accuracy in the identification and analysis of exposures and risk classifications to provide accurate premium adjustments.
- Manages loss control operations to ensure effective service delivery and maintain positive relationships with customers, agents and district underwriters.
- Develops training and development plans for loss control staff in coordination with other departments in Farm/Ranch Operations and the Education Division to support desired performance standards and expertise requirements needed to achieve business goals
- Communicates and interacts with sales management, the field force and Farm/Ranch Operations related to Loss Control strategies, objectives, procedures and changes that will impact the field and/or Operations.
- Establishes effective problem resolution processes that respond to compliance and licensing issues, state and federal regulatory agencies including OHSA, and escalated or sensitive issues arising from internal and external customers including sales management and the field force.

- First Line Management/Leadership for the Loss Control Operations (30%)
- Manages direct reports, systems, products and projects to achieve unit and department goals. This is done in accordance with company policies and practices.
- Performs administrative activities in a timely manner necessary to effectively manage the unit, including but not limited to budget preparation, reports preparation, and salary administration. Prepares and analyzes unit plans and reports.
- Provides leadership by exhibiting influence and expertise, thus affecting the results of the operating area.
- Creates an effective work environment by developing a common vision, setting clear objectives, expecting teamwork, recognizing and rewarding outstanding performance and maintaining open communications.
- Develops staff through coaching, providing performance feedback, providing effective performance reviews, and establishing development plans to include continuing education.

- Loss Control Strategy & Implementation (20%)
- Develops and implements loss control strategies and services that are responsive to changing market conditions and meet business needs and customer expectations.
- Designs loss control programs to improve and retain profitable classes of business, and enhance growth opportunities in collaboration with Product Design & Underwriting and Commercial Farm/Ranch Operations Underwriting.
- Establishes expectations for the quality, cost and timeliness of work associated with the loss control process. Also establishes standards for communication with customers and Commercial Farm/Ranch Operations.
- Develops compliance processes in collaboration with Commercial Farm/Ranch Operations, Corporate Legal and Product Design & Underwriting to ensure recommendation letters, communications, and loss control materials are compliant with state statutes and regulations.
- Develops compliance processes to ensure state insurance department reporting and certification requirements are identified, requirements are met and reports submitted as required.
- Identifies, develops and effectively executes department projects.

- Strategies Linked to the Division's Business Goals/Results (20%)
- Establishes, communicates and implements departmental plans, objectives, and strategies, with particular attention to department and division business plans.
- Participates as a member of the department management team.
- Maintains an active awareness of American Family's business environments, corporate culture and structure to support key decision making.
- Interacts with field force and sales management as well as other divisions as the primary voice of the team.

Education/Licenses/Designations
- Degree or designation completed or in progress in area of accountability, i.e., CPCU, CSP or AFIS or ARM.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in loss control or personal, commercial or farm/ranch underwriting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the insurance industry, including specific knowledge of property, casualty, and/ or commercial farm-ranch lines products.
- Strong leadership skills/experience.

Travel Requirements
- This position requires travel up to 50% of the time.
